Bio

Taniya Hossain relocated from New York to Los Angeles to be one of Disney’s 2006 Screenwriting Fellows. She has gone on to write for the Disney Channel animated show The Replacements. While in New York she was awarded the Sloan Foundation Grant for her screenplays, Chemistry Set and The Speed of Light, which also placed second in the Fusion Film Festival Screenwriting Contest. Her teleplay, Sip Off the Old Block,  won the Prism GenerationNext Fellowship. Her play Mother in Another Language was featured as part of the Lark Play Development Center’s Playwrights’  Week in New York and was a finalist for the O’ Neill Playwrights Conference. Her plays have been seen at SALAAM Theatre, New Perspectives Theatre, Brooklyn Lyceum and Westbeth Theatre Center in New York; City Theater in Pittsburgh (her play Haunted received Honorable Mention in the Pittsburgh New Works Festival); Chance Theatre in Anaheim; Chicago Dramatist Workshop, Bailiwick Arts Center and Famous Door Theatre in Chicago; Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, AK; and Two Trees Theatre in Vancouver, BC. She received her MFA at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and served as an instructor for NYU’s Expository Writing Program.

Synopsis: A woman learns that her husband is cheating on her with her next door neighbor’s wife.
Set: The hall of an apartment building, a bedroom

Bridge & Tunnel
Synopsis: A remarried housewife befriends her gay neighbor after the tragic death of his lover, and the two spend their nights retreating to their secret rituals for their dead partners.
Set: Mike’s kitchen, Sarah’s kitchen, the yard in between Mike and Sarah’s house.

Mother in Another Language
Synopsis: A culture clash comedy about a Bengali expat and his American fiance who move their two mothers into the basement apartment of their brownstone.
Set: the basement apartment of a New York City brownstone

Deceptions
Synopsis: The household of a noblewoman is thrown into romantic chaos when her secret love letter is mis-delivered making and breaking up couples with each exchange.
Set: An Italian villa and surrounding countryside (a courtyard, a garden, a forest, a road)
Time Period: 16th century Italy
